Rahul smashed six fours and four sixes in his knock © BCCI "I have been branded as a Test cricketer for 4-5 years, so it's good for me to be up there creating history and breaking the record," is how KL Rahul described his knock against Delhi Daredevils, after scoring the fastest IPL fifty. Despite some rapid knocks for India in the shortest format, including a hundred and a T20I strike rate in excess of 145, his overall T20 numbers painted a different picture. A scoring rate 125.65 in IPL before his first game in the 2018 season added weight to the narrative that he was of an accumulator of runs. During his debut IPL season in 2013, with Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rahul got limited opportunities - only two innings in the middle in which he scored 20 runs. He got better chances with Sunrisers Hyderabad during IPL 2014 but that stint d...

Even though Even Lewis had a debut to forget, Mayank Markande had one to remember, albeit in a losing cause. © AFP                                                A debut to forget If practice sessions a day before the game was anything to go by, Evin Lewis seemed like a party fish in his water. He was hammering the monster blows all around the ground. Some of them went deep into the stands some even hit the glass chambers. How none of them broke remains a mystery! But Lewis seemed all smooth in his glory, bringing his big-hitting reputation to IPL. Unfortunately, his debut innings in the tournament lasted only two balls as he was trapped leg-before-wicket by a superb inswinging delivery from Deepak Chahar. He got out for a duck, but to save some embarrassment, it isn't a premier list that he is a part of. He has the company of as many as 57...

Anger overflows from West Indies' cup of joy Share Tweet Share © Getty Champions or not, the stage that West Indies attained to make their statements, worth pondering over, was definitely the highest. "This wasn't just about winning. We wanted to win and then talk," said Darren Sammy moments after winning a second World T20 title. They had a lot of talking to do, too. To their cricket board, to Mark Nicholas, to Shane Warne and to everyone else who didn't give them a chance. In 2012, West Indies was a team keen on bringing back silverware to the Caribbean. At the Eden Gardens on Sunday (April 3), it was a team craving for respect not received despite said silverware. It's not just the cup that counts, clearly. For West Indies, a team not bound by regional boundaries, the motivation to excel stems from elsewhere. For India and Pakistan, the talks about it being 'only a game' depends on which side of the result they are on. Recently...
